Zamami held its annual trade fair this year on Saturday, February 14th. As soon as temperatures begin to cool off in late November and early December, Zamami’s residents take to the fields and pretty much every household sets up a garden that is typically the size of a small farm. The fruits, and vegetables, of their labor are put on display each year in February at a local trade fair held in Zamami Island’s community hall. While produce is the primary product on display, another third of the items are traditional crafts including baskets, brooms, etc.
One event that particularly captured the attention of those in attendance was a performance by the Fishing Cooperative that demonstrated how professionals go about gutting a large marlin. The fishing co-op and other groups throughout the village ran small food stands selling dishes like curry rice and oden fish stew.
